International Nursing Day
May 12th is the International Day of Nursing. Considering that nurses/technicians make up more than 1/3 of the employees in the global health system, the role of nurse technicians is vital for the functioning of a health system, which has been shown even in the difficult moments of the pandemic.
We congratulate our students and all nurses/technicians on this significant date.
A few notable facts:
- Globally, there are more than 27.9 million employees in healthcare, of which 19.3 million are professional nurses.
- Nurse technicians are the largest occupational group in the health sector with a total of 59 %.
- In 2018, it was estimated that there was a global shortage of more than 5.9 million nurses in the system.
- The employed nurses/technicians are relatively young employees, but there are also regions with an older age structure in America and certain European regions.
- To reduce the shortage of nurses/technicians by 2030 in all countries, the number of graduated nurses/technicians should increase by 8% per year, but in parallel with the continuous employment of these graduates.
- 86% member countries of the WHO (WHO) have a responsible body for the regulation of nursing
