May 12 International Day of Nursing

May 12 is marked as International Nursing Day. On the occasion of this important event, the students of the Health Care study program decided to send appropriate messages to their colleagues. Nurses/technicians represent the largest number of employees in health systems globally.

A few notable facts:

• Globally, there are more than 27.9 million employees in healthcare, of which 19.3 million are professional nurses.
• Nurse technicians are the largest occupational group in the health sector with a total of 59 %.
• In 2018, it was estimated that there was a global shortage of more than 5.9 million nurses in the system.
• The employed nurses/technicians are relatively young employees, but there are also regions with an older age structure in America and certain European regions.
• To reduce the shortage of nurses/technicians by 2030 in all countries, the number of graduated nurses/technicians should increase by 8% per year, but in parallel with the continuous employment of these graduates.
• 86% member countries of the WHO (WHO) have a responsible body for the regulation of nursing.
